Fine Design Studio is a boutique residential interior design studio based in Melbourne, Australia. We enjoy working closely with our clients and as such, only take on a handful of projects each year.
The essence of our design is warmth and liveability. Our consideration for how a home is actually inhabited, the light, the flow, the small daily rituals, sits alongside meticulous attention to detail and material honesty, creating spaces that feel as considered as they do comfortable.
We approach design with a fine sensibility, while finding the joy in each varying home, client and site. Drawing on ten years of experience in high-end residential design and architecture, our work spans considered renovations and extensions through to full new builds, each approached with the same care and commitment to getting it right.

Our approach
Every project begins with a conversation. We take the time to understand how our clients live - the light they're drawn to, the way they move through a home, the small daily rituals that make a house theirs. We believe that beauty is for the everyday, and that good design is for where life happens.
From there, we balance considered spatial planning with intuition & creativity, selecting finishes and details that suit each home and each client rather than a fixed formula. Every project is approached with the same rigour, whether it's a considered renovation, an extension, or a full new build.
To bring each project to life, we collaborate closely with trusted architects, builders and trades, drawing on our own architectural background to see a design through from concept to completion with technical precision. The result is spaces that feel personal and enduring, as considered as they are comfortable.
Our team
Melissa Herron Founder & Director
With a Bachelor and Master of Design in Architecture from Deakin University, Melissa brings over a decade of experience in high end residential design to the Fine Design Studio. She is also a current tutor in interior design at RMIT University, remaining closely connected to the ideas and energy shaping the next generation of the industry.
For Melissa, design is the storytelling of people's lives, going beyond noticing the details to actually living them. Her approach is intuitive and warm, sharpened by a clarity and precision that comes from years of technical training.
Melissa is an Accredited Designer Member of the Design Institute of Australia (Membership No. 7541705) and RAIA Graduate Member with the Australian Institute of Architects (Membership ID. 70218).
Mia Design Dog
Mia's days are largely devoted to sleeping, and eating, with the occasional foray into materials testing, a role she takes seriously and entirely on her own terms. If it can survive Mia, it can survive anything. She is also the studio's greatest reminder that at the end of the day, we are designing real homes for real people
